Requirements
All volunteers must:
- gain medical clearance, including two tuberculosis tests, an immunization titer, and a urine drug screening (all provided by Nemours)
- clear background and abuse registry screenings, including two personal/community references
- participate in an interview where skills, interests, and expectations are matched with the needs of patients, families, and staff
- satisfactorily complete a 4-hour orientation
- make a commitment to serve at least 50 hours per year
- serve a 2- to 4-hour shift once a week in a designated time slot
The majority of volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with limited evening and weekend hours.
Application Time Frames
- Adults - Opportunities are available from September through
April each year. Please contact our office to request information to
join our program. We are not able to accept new adult applicants from May through August due to our summer programs for students. - College Students - Opportunities are by semester and openings
are limited. Please call our office to inquire about availability for
upcoming semesters.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- have consistent patience interacting with children from birth to age 18, as well as with their siblings and parents
- be able to speak and understand English
- be willing to learn the skills necessary to be competent in their duties and responsibilities
