Application, Requirements, and Benefits

Requirements

All volunteers must:

  • gain medical clearance, including two tuberculosis tests, an immunization titer, and a urine drug screening (all provided by Nemours)
  • clear background and abuse registry screenings, including two personal/community references
  • participate in an interview where skills, interests, and expectations are matched with the needs of patients, families, and staff
  • satisfactorily complete a 4-hour orientation
  • make a commitment to serve at least 50 hours per year
  • serve a 2- to 4-hour shift once a week in a designated time slot

The majority of volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with limited evening and weekend hours.

Application Time Frames

  • Adults and college students are welcome to apply September through May.


Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • have consistent patience interacting with children from birth to age 18, as well as with their siblings and parents
  • be able to speak and understand English
  • be willing to learn the skills necessary to be competent in their duties and responsibilities
