Delaware Community Foundation Contributes $10,000

Funds to support Expansion project.

Wednesday, Jul 18, 2012

Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington

The Delaware Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $10,000 to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children to support its expansion. The grant was made through the Foundation’s 2012 Capital Grants Program.

A five-story expansion building is now under construction adjacent to the current hospital building. The structure will feature all single-patient rooms with sleeping accommodations for families, a 188-space underground parking garage, and atrium entrance with a welcome center. A brand-new emergency department with 44 beds will have capacity to handle a greatly increased volume of emergency visits and support the hospital as Delaware’s only pediatric trauma center.

The expansion, which will open to patients in 2014, has been carefully planned with significant input from the Family Advisory Council, Youth Advisory Council, and from health professionals at Nemours.

The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health, the philanthropic arm of Nemours, is grateful to the Delaware Community Foundation for its investment in this important project.
