On September 5 and 6, 2012, the “Help Our Kids” Radiothon was held at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. For 24 hours (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day), the hospital’s cafeteria was buzzing with the sounds of six different Delmarva Broadcasting Company radio stations as they shared with their listeners stories of hope, courage, and compassion that happen in our hospital every day. As the clock hit 6 p.m. on Thursday, the total amount raised was announced: $122,140.65.

Donations came steadily throughout the two-day event via a phone bank and online giving, as well as in person, as people listening to their favorite radio station were inspired by what they were hearing.

Key Facts
  • 2nd Annual Help Our Kids Radiothon to benefit Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
  • Delmarva Broadcasting Company radio stations that participated: WDEL 1150 AM, WSTW 93.7 FM, Eagle 97.7 FM, WXCY 103.7 FM, Cool 101.3 FM, and La Exitosa 930 AM.
  • The highest single donation came from 11 local New Castle County Domino’s Pizza shops, who presented a check for $24,469.
  • More than 200 volunteers, including Nemours staff and community members, shared their valuable time to make the Radiothon a success.

“I am once again simply amazed at the kindness and compassion we witnessed these past two days by people in our community, Nemours Associates, and our very special patients and their families. One hundred percent of all money donated will go to help the kids in our care at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Of course, this Radiothon would not be possible without the support of Delmarva Broadcasting Company, the multitude of sponsors, the hundreds of volunteers, and everyone in the community who tuned in and gave so generously.”

Marie Hiddeman, Special Events and Corporate Relations Manager, Nemours Fund for Children's Health

“The community support we received is just phenomenal. The money raised will help us grow our programs and expand our hospital to create a place of healing like no other in the region. I thank Delmarva Broadcasting Company for donating their airwaves, and all who donated their time and money to Help Our Kids.”

Kevin Churchwell, CEO, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
