Spine and Scoliosis Center Installs Ultra-Low-Dose Imaging Machine

Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children announces the installation of its EOS ultra-low dose imaging machine. This is the only machine of its kind in the Delaware Valley, and its detector technology, which captures simultaneous front and side spine and limb images of patients in an upright, weight bearing position, garnered a Nobel Prize. The process takes seconds and exposes a patient to substantially less radiation than existing X-ray machines.

“This technology offers physicians the ability to study the spine in three dimensions, so we can better classify and treat these complex deformities and give our patients better outcomes,” says Suken Shah, MD, Division Chief.

The Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has a legacy of excellence in providing general and subspecialty pediatric orthopedic care on a national level.
The spine surgeons at Nemours dedicate their careers to the treatment of spinal disorders in children, performing more than 250 operations a year for scoliosis,
kyphosis, and spondylolisthesis.

The addition of the new EOS imaging machine continues the Nemours tradition as a leader in the treatment and care of these conditions. Under the direction of Drs. Suken Shah and Peter Gabos, the Nemours Spine and Scoliosis Center treats more than 3,300 patients annually.
