Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Creates Video to Help Kids Prepare for Surgery
Video shares top 10 things kids need to know about surgery
Knowing that kids have a lot of questions and concerns prior to surgery, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has created “The Top 10 Things Kids Need to Know About Surgery.” This fun, family-friendly video was designed to help kids understand what to expect before, during, and after their procedure.
Research has shown that children who are prepared for medical procedures experience less fear and anxiety and this video addresses many of the most frequently asked questions in a straight-forward, simple, and entertaining manner. The goal of the video is to give parents the information they need to talk about surgery with their kids.
Nemours is committed to making every contact within our health care system a uniquely satisfying experience. This video adds an important tool to our variety of resources that help patients and families prepare for surgery. What sets this video apart is that while it provides a wealth of important information, it does so in a very engaging, and even amusing way.
- This video was made possible by our generous donors through the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health.
- Featuring a child narrator, the video takes you on Sheridan’s journey on her day of surgery.
- Staff from duPont Hospital for Children’s Peri-Operative Services and Child Life Department volunteered their time and efforts to create the video.
- The video features actual Nemours staff, families and patients.
"When a child needs surgery of any type, it can cause anxiety for the entire family. We hope this video will ease worries and take away some of that ‘fear of the unknown’ for kids as well as their parents or caregivers."
— Robert Redlinger, MSN, RN, Senior Director, Peri-Operative Services
