M&T Bank Charitable Foundation has made a donation of $20,000 to establish a telehealth initiative for Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, its Seaford pediatric clinic and other satellite locations in Kent and Sussex Counties, Delaware. Telehealth will provide a way for pediatric specialists, such as cardiologists, neurologists, gastroenterologists, and psychiatrists, to consult remotely with providers who care for children in Kent and Sussex Counties, where there is a shortage of pediatric specialists. This program is especially beneficial for low income families and those who lack the time or means to travel to Wilmington for specialized services.

Key Facts
  • Telehealth is a rapidly developing technique where medical information is transferred through an interactive audio-visual system for the purpose of consultation or conducting medical exams or procedures at a remote location.
  • The generous support from M&T Bank covers the cost of equipment including video monitors, cameras, and audio equipment, plus diagnostic and therapeutic equipment needed by certain specialty services.
  • Telehealth will be set up first at the Nemours Pediatrics Seaford Clinic, where more than 70% of patients receive Medicaid or are uninsured.
  • Telehealth services will expand to Nanticoke Hospital Emergency Department (where Nemours provides pediatric coverage), and later expand to serve other Nemours-affiliated locations in Kent and Sussex Counties.

"We are proud to support the vision and leadership of Nemours in bringing this innovative program to children and their families throughout the state of Delaware."

Nick Lambrow, M&T’s Delaware Regional President

"Telehealth monitoring and communication technology is more readily at hand and easier to use than in the past. The practice has enormous potential, especially for underserved areas with sparse populations where it is not feasible to bring in full time specialists. Above all, telehealth has the potential to improve the quality of life for Delaware’s children and we are extremely grateful to M&T Bank for their support of the program."

Eric Gibson, MD, Nemours Director of External Pediatric Specialty Services
