Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Adopts Temporary Visitation Restrictions

Tuesday, Jan 29, 2013

Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington

To prevent the spread of the flu virus and protect the health and healing of all children at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, a temporary inpatient visitation restriction has been put into effect. At this time, visitors under the age of 13 will not be permitted on the hospital’s inpatient units.

We encourage families and other partners-in-care to make appropriate arrangements before visiting the hospital. These restrictions do not apply to the hospital emergency department or other outpatient areas.

Key Facts
  • Influenza is still widespread throughout the Delaware Valley.
  • We continue to see influenza and other respiratory illnesses among our patient population.
  • A variety of additional infection control measures are in place at the hospital and outpatient practices, including:
    • screening all visitors to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for flu symptoms
    • masking patients who exhibit signs or symptoms of respiratory illnesses
    • installing cough stations that include hand sanitizer, masks and other methods to prevent the spread of germs
  • Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is committed to providing the safest and highest quality care to our patients, and was recently recognized by The Leapfrog Group as being one of the safest children’s hospitals in the country.
  • Hospital leadership will continue monitoring influenza in our area and may make additional recommendations as necessary to protect our patients from the flu.

“Nemours takes patient safety very seriously. Working with our families and other partners-in-care we can prevent the spread of influenza and give our patients the best chance of healing.”
