Nemours Children's Hospital Earns Press Ganey Award

Tuesday, Nov 10, 2015

Press Ganey Associates Presented the 2015 Guardians of Excellence Award

The leading provider of patient experience measurement just announced that Nemours Children’s Hospital was among the top-performing health care organizations in the country.  Surveys from families who had an overnight stay in the hospital, collected by Press Ganey Associates Inc. over the past year showed Nemours performing in the 95th percentile or above in performance in patient experience.

Press Ganey formally recognized Nemours with the Guardian of Excellence Award at a lunch during the Press Ganey National Client Conference, held on November 11th at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort.

"Everyone at Nemours tries to create a uniquely satisfying experience for each and every patient and family," said Mariane Stefano, Enterprise Vice President for Service and Operational Excellence.  "This honor from Press Ganey Associates is a sign that Nemours is achieving our goal of service excellence and it provides recognition of the Associates who work so hard caring for families every day."

Nemours formed a Family Advisory Council before it opened the hospital in October, 2012.  Families involved in the group worked with the architect on the design of the facility and interviewed job candidates, including 85% of the physicians who work at Nemours Children’s Hospital.

"The Nemours Family Advisory Council is our beacon, elevating our focus on patient and family centered care," said Barbara Meeks MSN, MBA, RN, CENP Chief Nurse Executive for Florida. "Their important work was central to Nemours earning this honor."

Surveys were collected from May, 2014 through April 2015.  Patient families were asked to assess the quality of their experience with measures including, ‘how well the staff worked together to care for your child’, and ‘degree to which tests and treatments were explained using plain language you could understand’.

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in health care. Presented annually, the award honors clients who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.

"We are proud to partner with Nemours Children’s Hospital," said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. "This award is a testament to the organization’s leadership in delivering patient-centered care. By achieving and sustaining this level of excellence, Nemours demonstrates their commitment to reducing patient suffering and advancing the overall quality of health care."
