Nemours Childrens Specialty Care Names New Interim Chair of Medicine

Nemours Children’s Specialty Care is pleased to announce that Okan Elidemir, MD, has accepted the position as Interim Chair of Medicine. In this new role, Dr. Elidemir will be the physician leader with overall responsibility for operation of the medicine divisions.

Dr. Elidemir has more than 20 years’ experience as a pediatric pulmonologist and joined Nemours in October 2012.

"I look forward to helping families access the care they need in this region and bringing even more of the expertise of Nemours Children’s Health System into the community."

Nemours is one of the nation’s leading pediatric health systems, with more than 90 locations spread through six states.

Dr. Elidemir is a graduate of the Aegean University School of Medicine in Izmir, Turkey, where he went on to complete his residency in pediatrics. He completed his internship and second residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Elidemir is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Thoracic Society.  He is also a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Prior to joining Nemours, Dr. Elidemir served as a professor of pediatrics at the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine and as the medical director of pediatric pulmonology and pediatric respiratory care at Greenville Children’s Hospital. He has also served as an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical School and at the Baylor College of Medicine, both located in Houston, Texas, as well as the medical director for the Lung and Heart/Lung Transplant Programs and as the director of the Lung Transplant Fellowship Training Program at Texas Children’s Hospital. He has held several professorship positions at Florida State University, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas Medical School of Houston.
