Tuesday, Aug 18, 2015

Children with sleep disorders, cystic fibrosis and asthma have a new physician-expert in Northwest Florida. Dr. Christopher Michael Makris, MPH has joined Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Pensacola. The pediatric pulmonologist is board-certified in pediatric pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine which allows him to treat sleep disorders in children such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, nightmares and restless leg syndrome.  He is also trained to help children with asthma better manage their symptoms, and help children with CF to live longer, healthier lives.

"Dr. Makris expands our ability to provide world-class care to children and families in Northwest Florida and beyond," said Dr. Mary B. Mehta, chief medical officer of the Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Pensacola.

Dr. Makris has conducted extensive research into the causes and potential treatments for sleep disorders. He has presented at conferences across the country and published abstracts and book chapters on two dozen sleep-related topics.

Prior to joining Nemours, Dr. Makris was on staff at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. He also served as a professor at the University of Alabama.

Prior to Nemours, he was on faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine and a staff physician at Children’s of Alabama. Dr. Makris earned his medical degree at Tulane University in New Orleans and a master’s degree in public health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health. He completed his residency in pediatrics at McGill University and Montreal Children’s Hospital in Canada, and his fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at UAB.
