About KidsHealth

Founded in 1992, the Nemours Center for Children’s Health Media (KidsHealth®) was the first group in the nation dedicated to the creation of high-quality, family-friendly media aimed at helping parents and kids understand children’s health issues.

The Center’s KidsHealth.org is the #1 most-visited website in the world devoted specifically to children’s health, both in English and Spanish. The Center also creates print, video, and mobile media under its trademark, KidsHealth.

Through engaging, easy-to-understand media, the physician-led KidsHealth provides knowledge, advice, perspective, and comfort to families on a wide array of medical, behavioral, and developmental topics.

KidsHealth Partnerships

KidsHealth distributes its educational products through partnerships with leading hospitals and health systems, health plans, corporations, nonprofits, and government and media organizations throughout the world.

Plus, more than 80 children’s hospitals turn to Nemours’ KidsHealth for their patient and family education.

KidsHealth Products

KidsHealth creates family-friendly health information and materials specifically for parents, kids, and teens.

Since its launch in 1995, KidsHealth.org has helped more than 1.5 billion parents, kids, and teens with doctor-approved health information in English and Spanish. With 10,000+ articles, animations, movies, and interactive tools, KidsHealth covers a wide range of physical, emotional, and behavioral issues.

KidsHealth also creates KidsHealth in the Classroom, a website for educators providing free, standards-based health curricula, activities, handouts, and more.

KidsHealth develops mobile apps, such as Is It Contagious: What Parents Need to Know and Food Flight, an interactive, kids game to teach healthy eating habits. KidsHealth.org also has a mobile site to enhance the user experience when viewed using a smartphone.

KidsHealth has the largest library of pediatric education videos available in English and Spanish. The KidsHealth Video Library is available at the patient bedside in children’s hospitals throughout the country and online for use by clinicians and families.

The video library focuses on condition-specific topics and includes programs for parents, kids, and teens to increase patient knowledge, satisfaction, and confidence. The library includes real families sharing their experiences to help reduce isolation and increase hope.

KidsHealth creates these award-winning videos with Nemours advisory teams composed of physicians, nurses, therapists, and social workers.

Patient Instructions

KidsHealth is creating the largest library of discharge and after-care instructions designed exclusively for pediatrics. Covering hundreds of topics in English and Spanish, the instructions are appropriate for in-patient, outpatient, emergency department, and primary care use.

Developed in collaboration with Nemours pediatricians, subspecialists, surgeons, nurses, and other caregivers, KidsHealth patient instructions include information written in parent-friendly language that addresses the medical and emotional issues families face.

Electronic Health Record Integration

Nemours, already a national leader among children’s hospitals in the development and use of electronic health records (EHR), has again taken the lead on integrating family-friendly health information, transforming its EHR into a teaching tool. As part of an ongoing collaboration between Nemours Health Informatics and the Nemours Center for Children’s Health Media, KidsHealth’s age-appropriate information on conditions, tests and procedures, and medications is accessible to clinicians and families via Nemours’ EHR, including its patient-accessible health record, MyNemours.

Interactive Learning About Surgical Procedures

KidsHealth and Emmi Solutions partner to create a powerful online interactive learning tool to increase patient satisfaction and outcomes. Created for parents of children about to undergo procedures (tonsillectomies, spinal fusions, cardiac catheterizations, etc.), each Emmi+ KidsHealth® program provides a robust, animated online educational experience that covers:

  • reasons for surgery
  • basics of the condition
  • what to expect before, during, and after the procedure
  • risks and benefits
  • alternatives
