Why Choose Us: Gastroenterology

Our Outcomes: The Results of Our Care

From allergic diseases of the intestinal system to liver disease requiring transplantation, our board-certified gastroenterologists help alleviate your child’s symptoms and, when necessary, provide ongoing management to maintain your child’s good digestive health.

Why Measuring Results Matters

To provide pediatric care that's among the safest and most effective, we measure our results and compare them to national pediatric rates. Why? So we can:

  • help you make decisions about your child’s care
  • be clear about our results
  • improve and consistently deliver better, safer care

Ensuring That Children With Crohn’s and Colitis Have the Best Possible Quality of Life

Nemours gastroenterologists are leaders in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research and care. Our team provides comprehensive, state-of-the art care for kids with IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis).

We’re proud to be part of the national pediatric inflammatory bowel disease improvement network ImproveCareNow. The network’s goal is to allow patients, families, health care providers and researchers to work together in advancing the care, costs and health for all kids with IBD. Our affiliation with ImproveCareNow exposes our patients to the innovations and successful strategies discovered by the entire 106-center collaborative.

Here are a couple of the IBD-related outcomes we track and focus on to improve the experience for both you and your child. These results show where we’re performing at or above the ImproveCareNow targets for patients with IBD.

*Prednisone is a corticosteroid medication that reduces digestive tract inflammation from IBD. However, it can cause concerning side effects, so it's important to significantly limit its use as much as possible and use other medications instead.
**Patients' growth was satisfactory as a result of being in remission.

Why Choose Nemours Gastroenterology

Here are just some of the reasons families choose us and our experienced, highly skilled team of physicians and support staff for their child’s care:

  • Children’s hospitals in Wilmington, Del., and Orlando are academic and medical centers. Our internationally and nationally renowned physicians teach tomorrow’s gastroenterologists and surgeons, and actively research pediatric digestive conditions. So your child can benefit from the advanced knowledge and treatments emerging from these studies.
  • Named “Best Children’s Hospital” for Gastroenterology & Surgery. U.S. News & World Report® ranks Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children (Wilmington, Del.) in the top 15 hospitals for high-quality digestive care in children (2017). The duPont Hospital for Children was also given the Gold Medallion Award for service to children with IBD at the annual Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Renaissance Ball in 2017.
  • Award-winning physicians. Year after year, many on our team are recognized in “Best Doctors in America®” and local magazines as “Top Doctors” in our regions.
  • Specialty programs dedicated to caring for kids with specific chronic pediatric GI conditions. These clinics allow for our pediatric gastroenterologists to work alongside other pediatric specialists, nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers and registered dietitians. We work together to give comprehensive GI care.
  • Ability to communicate with doctors online through the electronic health record system. In addition to being available by phone, our team uses MyNemours, our award-winning online patient portal, to communicate securely. You can ask questions, refill medicines, and schedule appointments online — on your time.
  • “Family-centered” care. That means our doctors and care providers involve you and your child as much as possible in deciding on a care plan. So you’ll have a better understanding of your child’s condition and what to expect from treatment at every step.
