Why Choose Us: Primary Care

Our Outcomes: The Results of Our Care

Most of our Nemours primary care practices are designated Patient-Centered Medical Homes. This means we achieve the highest level of national certification to help give kids a firm foundation for lifelong wellness.

As part of our longstanding commitment to keeping kids as healthy as possible, Nemours strives to be a leader in childhood vaccinations. Immunizations remain a crucial tool for protecting kids from many serious and potentially deadly diseases throughout their childhood — and later. At all of our primary care locations, we make routine immunizations a top priority in order to keep dangerous, often highly contagious illnesses from affecting children at all ages and stages, from infancy through adolescence.

Why Measuring Results Matters

At Nemours, we measure our results and compare them to national rates to help track our progress in providing pediatric care with the best possible results. Why? So we can:

  • help you make decisions about your child’s care
  • be clear about our results
  • improve so we can consistently deliver better, safer care

We’re proud of our primary care practices' dedication to helping kids be healthy, from birth through the teens.

Keeping Toddlers and Preschoolers Safe and Healthy

Making Sure Young Kids Are Vaccinated on Schedule

Vaccinations are safe and effective at safeguarding children against potentially devastating exposure to measles, bloodstream infections and respiratory diseases in public and child care settings. Babies and young children are especially at risk for picking up viruses since they aren’t old enough to have received all of their immunizations yet. At Nemours, our primary care practices are doing far better than the national average in giving toddlers and preschoolers their scheduled vaccines.

Data does not represent all applicable primary care patients at all primary care locations, as Nemours is opening new practices on an ongoing basis. Practices in Central Florida are relatively new and just starting to use the Nemours electronic health record, therefore the data may underreport the actual immunization rate.

Making Sure Kids Are Immunized and Ready for College

The meningitis vaccine protects kids and teens from the major cause of bacterial meningitis that can spread quickly in close quarters, such as dormitories or camps. Nemours is dedicated to making sure we vaccinate as many eligible preteens and teens (ages 11–18) as possible.

Our Differentiators: What Sets Us Apart

Why Choose Nemours Pediatric Primary Care

Here are just some of the reasons families choose Nemours for their child’s primary care pediatrician:

  • Patient-Centered Medical Homes. Three-quarters of our Nemours primary care locations (all of our Florida practices and most in Delaware) are designated Patient-Centered Medical Homes. That means your child receives coordinated care that meets stringent national standards. As part of our “medical home,” your child's primary care provider leads a care team dedicated to addressing your child’s comprehensive health care needs — arranging care with other qualified professionals as needed. The care team may include our doctors and nurses, care coordinators, psychologists, social workers and/or lactation consultants.
  • Comprehensive pediatric services when you need them. As part of an entire system dedicated to children, you have seamless access to expert pediatricians, subspecialists, therapists and surgeons who work together to treat nearly every condition, from common to complex. Nemours provides the full spectrum of health services for newborns to teens, including primary, urgent, specialty and hospital care.
  • Award-winning electronic health records (EHR) system. Our EHR helps us keep all of our providers on the same page. We also use our EHR to track our success in vaccinating our patients. Our system generates reports that allow us to contact families and help them get caught up when their children are behind on vaccines (even outside of routine well-child check-ups). And MyNemours, the parent portal of our EHR, gives you secure access to your child’s records and email communication with your provider(s).
  • On-demand online video doctor visits. For your convenience, Nemours CareConnect allows families to see a pediatrician without having to drive to a practice — perfect if your little (or big) one is sick after-hours, like in the middle of the night or over the weekend.
