Get to Know Me

Dr. David A. Schaeffer is division chief of Pediatric Pulmonology at Nemours Children's Specialty Care and a member of the Nemours Clinical Research Review Committee. He is the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the Community Asthma Program at Wolfson Children's Hospital, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Mayo Medical School. He is an author of book chapters and peer-reviewed medical journal articles, an invited presenter and an active researcher.

Why I Treat Children

I have always liked children. I decided to become a doctor to help them as best as I could. And, when I was a medical student, I became intrigued with the lungs and breathing. The young pulmonary patients I encountered — and the physicians taking care of them — drew my interest to specializing in children's lung diseases.

What I'm Passionate About

I am passionate about the patients and families that I see. They have taught me strength and persistence, because I see those with chronic diseases who are so strong and persist and manage their disease and find ways to live with it. I think they bring us their friendliness and their happiness, and their happiness helps us all be happy in the care that we try to provide them.

Make A Difference

We have a great team of physicians, nurses and staff, and it is exciting to be able to provide such great care for kids. We all strive hard to talk with children on their level and to explain things to them, and to work in a kid-friendly manner.
