Kerry Eldred is a Research and Evaluation Specialist for Nemours BrightStart! where she primarily provides research support and does program evaluation for early learning coalitions and school districts that use the Nemours BrightStart! Programs for Early Literacy Success.
A Jacksonville native, her career in education began when she was selected by Teach For America to teach in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. After returning to Jacksonville, she was a special education teacher for four years with Duval County Public Schools. Throughout her teaching career, she taught multiple subjects to middle and high school students with varying exceptionalities, including those with learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and Autism. After convincing a principal to hire her as a dance and ESE teacher, she launched a dance program that is still going strong at JWJ College Preparatory Middle School.
Kerry graduated from the University of North Florida with a Master’s degree in Psychology; her undergraduate degrees, a B.S. in Geography (Environmental Studies) and a B.A. in International Affairs, are from Florida State University. She is still a certified teacher in Florida, in both Dance and Exceptional Student Education. She remains active in local and national movements seeking to improve education and Huntington’s Disease awareness.
