We also engage in laboratory, preclinical and clinical trials of evolving therapies to maintain a state-of-the-art approach to critical care.
Our intensivists engage in cooperative academic and clinical relationships with Christiana Care Health System and Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. We also offer a highly regarded Critical Care Fellowship Program.
ECMO Referral & Transport
Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is the only hospital in the region with an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) transport program. We provide extracorporeal life support services for critically ill newborns, babies, kids and teens. In a unique arrangement, Nemours physicians can see children for ECMO evaluation on-site at the referring hospital — a helpful option when the patient is unstable and may be at high risk for complications during transport. Pending evaluation, the Nemours ECMO transport team can place an unstable patient on ECMO at the referring hospital and then transport the child to duPont Hospital for Children in a stabilized condition for as long as needed.
Building a Healthier Future for Children
Our goal is to create a children's hospital like no other in the region, giving patients and families the promise of even better days to come. We're adding exciting new capabilities through a multi-phase Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Expansion.
Recently completed in 2014, Phase I supports family-centered care with:
- all single-bed, private rooms
- advanced technology
- thoughtful amenities to support patients, families and caregivers
To enhance the physical, emotional and spiritual healing of the child, our newly expanded hospital includes a five-story atrium with natural sunlight, recreation spaces and surrounding gardens.
