Inguinal Hernias & Hydroceles

The majority of inguinal hernias and hydroceles in children go away by themselves by the age of 12-18 months. However, your pediatric urologist may recommend surgical repair of your child's inguinal hernia or hydrocele if the hydrocele is very large, changes in size, or persists, or if the hernia can be seen or felt or causes discomfort.
