Tetralogy of Fallot

Tetralogy of Fallot — or TOF — is a rare, congenital (present at birth) condition caused by a combination of four heart defects. As a result, the defects change the way blood flows through the heart and to the lungs, so less oxygen-rich blood is carried to the body. This means TOF is repaired through surgery soon after a baby is born or early in infancy. In many cases, TOF can be diagnosed during pregnancy so care can begin right away.

At Nemours Children's, we offer leading-edge capabilities to detect heart problems early, including babies still in the womb — giving children the best chance. If your child is diagnosed with TOF, you can trust the pediatric heart care in our Nemours Cardiac Center. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons (specialists in surgical procedures of the chest, including the heart and lungs) are here to answer your questions, address your concerns, and offer treatment options. Our cardiac teams offer the latest in research-backed care, delivered with compassion.
