Unsedated GI Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE)

We're one of the few places in the nation offering this innovative test for kids.
Children with conditions of the esophagus often need a test called an “upper endoscopy." In children and adults, these tests usually require general anesthesia, which means a day at the hospital and food restrictions — plus a lot of coordination for families.
We offer a test called an “unsedated GI transnasal endoscopy” (TNE), where kids 10 and older can now have their endoscopy in an outpatient setting. That’s because with a TNE, our Nemours gastroenterologist (GI doctor) uses a local anesthetic and the camera travels through the nose.
The benefits of a TNE as compared to a sedated endoscopy include:
ZERO
risks from general anesthesia —
and no IV needle.
ONE
hour average time from
set-up to going home.
TWO
hours of food limits instead of
the usual nine or more.
60%
lower cost (approximately)
than a traditional endoscopy.
