A voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) is an X-ray exam that uses a small amount of radiation to make images of your child’s urinary system to check for problems. It looks at things like the size and shape of the bladder and makes sure the pathway is clear for urine (pee). It’s usually done while the bladder is being emptied.

When it comes to medical imaging, we have one of the largest, most well-respected pediatric radiology departments in North America. Our team of experts is specially trained to work with kids, using pediatric radiology equipment that’s designed or adapted to meet your child’s needs. Since some kids need light sedation during the VCUG test, our pediatric anesthesiologists are here to make sure your child is able to complete the test in a kid- and family-friendly environment, while feeling as comfortable as possible.
