Jeremy P. Wilson Foundation Donates $20,000 to Nemours Cancer Research

On Sept. 26, 2012, the Wilson family of Malvern, PA, made a special gift to promote childhood cancer research at Nemours. Through the Jeremy P. Wilson Foundation at the Chester County Community Foundation, the family gave $20,000 in memory of their son, Jeremy, a patient of Nemours who died from a rare form of childhood cancer in 2008 at the age of 11. The Wilsons’ generous gift will support the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, particularly sarcoma and rare tumor research.
“Jeremy was a kind and remarkable boy who fought his disease with great courage and determination. We miss him every day. He was also a budding philanthropist and we know he would be proud that we’re raising money to help find a cure,” said Jeremy’s mother Karen Wilson.

Jeremy had a rare and severe sarcoma of the liver for which few treatment options were available. One of the foundation’s goals is to contribute to organizations that conduct pediatric cancer research to develop better treatments for rare childhood cancers, particularly sarcomas. The funds designated for Nemours were raised through the annual Jeremy's Jedi 5K Run, as well as smaller events and individual and corporate donations.
Andy Kolb, MD, Director, Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, in thanking the Wilsons, said funding for new and better treatments for childhood cancers represents just 4% of all spending on cancer research, making donations of this kind so vital.
