Coronary anomalies can be hard to diagnose in children, so it’s important to get care from an experienced team. Our team is part of renowned, award-winning heart centers in Delaware and Florida. We offer advanced heart imaging with 3D technologies, the full range of exercise stress tests, and medical and surgical expertise.
Coronary anomalies happen when the coronary arteries, or blood vessels that come off the aorta to supply blood to the heart muscle, don’t form the way they should. The aorta is the largest artery that carries blood from the heart to the body. The coronary arteries can be an unusual shape or size, or they can start, run, or connect in the wrong way.
Some children born with a coronary anomaly can have narrowing of the coronary artery, which leads to exercise-related symptoms like chest pain. For others it can be acquired or result from conditions like Kawasaki disease or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Genetic disorders like Marfan syndrome, Williams syndrome and others can cause it, too.

- Diagnostic catheterization procedures using thin tubes threaded through blood vessels

- Ongoing care until age 40 through our program for adults with congenital heart disease
- Advanced life support capabilities with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR), ventricular assist devices (in Delaware) and more
- Specialized care and surgery for kids with rare genetic syndromes that affect the heart, as well as a recognized program for William’s syndrome
- Heart failure care and heart transplants (in Delaware)
- Cardiac psychology therapies to help with coping and neurodevelopment programs to strengthen development and learning
- Referral and partnership with other Nemours specialists including rheumatologists, hematologists and others for related conditions, like Kawasaki disease
