Director of the Nemours Center for Pharmacogenomics and Translational Research
Kathryn V. Blake, PharmD, is the Director of the Nemours Center for Pharmacogenomics and Translational Research, and a principal research scientist for Nemours Children's Health. She is Associate Professor of Pharmacy, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Blake received a BS in Zoology from the University of North Carolina and then earned her PharmD at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP residency and fellowship in pediatric pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Florida. Dr. Blake has been board certified in pharmacotherapy since 1994 by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties. Dr. Blake joined Nemours in 1989 to develop a clinical research program with Elliot Ellis, MD. She has been a PI or co-I on over 100 clinical trials. She has been a site co-investigator since 1999 and site PI since 2015 on the Asthma Clinical Research Center network grant of the American Lung Association and on AsthmaNet a nationwide clinical research network funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute from 2013 to 2018. She has been a site PI for the Implementing Genomics in Practice network funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute since 2015 to conduct studies in pharmacogenomics and currently for the trial, A Depression and Opioid Pragmatic Trial in Pharmacogenetics. She has served on Nemours Institutional Review Board 2 since 2001 and chair since 2018. In 2006 she received a K23 mentored training award from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for 5 years for her project "Pharmacogenetics of Beta2-Agonists in Asthma". In 2012, she was awarded a 4-year $2 million NIH R01 grant for her project "Use of Mobile Devices and the Internet to Streamline an Asthma Clinical Trial". She was funded by NHLBI in 2018 for $3.5 million her project, "Improving Medication Adherence with Telehealthcare Medication Therapy Management to Change Health Outcomes in Adolescents and Young Adults with Asthma"� which is being conducted in 300 adolescents and young adults at 24 sites of the Asthma Clinical Research Center network. From 2018 to 2020, she served on the NHLBI Working Group, a Federal Advisory Committee, to update the existing EPR-3 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. She has served on the FDA Pulmonary and Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee. She is currently a reviewer for the Interdisciplinary Clinical Care in Specialty Care Settings Study Section of the NIH Center for Scientific Review. Dr. Blake has 130 publications in the areas of pediatric asthma and pharmacogenomics and 10 book chapters on asthma.
