Laura Kowal has served as in-house counsel to The Nemours Foundation since 2015 and currently serves as the Interim General Counsel. Laura is responsible for all legal matters,corporate issues and transactions that implicate the legal, risk, corporate and governance realm. As the Corporate Secretary, she advises on all substantive governance issues. Laura oversees the legal department across the enterprise, the Office of Contract Administration and the Government Affairs department in the Delaware Valley.
Prior to joining Nemours, Laura practiced law in the health law group of the Business and Finance practice at Ballard Spahr LLP, an Am Law 100 firm, with a focus on complex corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, fraud and abuse, and regulatory matters. She is a member of the American Health Law Association.
Laura graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law with a certificate in Health Law. Prior to becoming an attorney, Laura received a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Drexel University and worked as a physical therapist and certified wound care specialist for 12 years in hospital and postacute care settings. She has an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Spanish literature and is fluent in Spanish. Laura serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, and is the past Chair of the Board. She also serves on the Executive Committee for the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Luncheon in Delaware.
Laura lives in Wilmington, Delaware with her husband and two children.
