Get to Know Me
Dr. Kevin Sullivan is a neonatologist at duPont Hospital for Children and the program site director for their fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal medicine. He’s the former medical director of the Special Care Nursery at Saint Francis Hospital, and the current chair of their Department of Pediatrics. He’s also clinical assistant professor at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Why I Treat Children
Infants are among our most vulnerable patients and unfortunately, sometimes preterm infants have to spend a lot of time with us in the hospital. This time enables a great bond not only with the babies but also with the families — sometimes for a lifetime. Helping every day in a small way to nurture these infants to discharge is a fabulous reason to come to work every morning. What I'm Passionate About
I am passionate about being part of what is often a brand new phase for a dad and mom —that of becoming a family. They can now say, “I am a dad, I am a mom and this is our baby.” I will do everything within my power to get their baby healthier and back to them so they can get on to being a whole family. How I Try to Make A Difference
We don’t have babies born at duPont Hospital for Children, but as part of Nemours we collaborate with other hospitals in the region and care for the most critically ill of infants. In an effort to improve the care of infants nationally, I’m part of a series focus groups through the Children’s Hospitals Neonatal Consortium (CHNC). In these groups we work to try and better understand the risks to infants’ health nationally and how to make improvements in each of our own Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). I’m also part of the hospital’s Ethics Committee as we work with families and staff on challenging situations. Clinically I am responsible for keeping a close eye on patient safety in our NICU. In my own practice as an individual physician, I try to make a difference by treating not just the child but caring for the whole family as well. We invite the family to participate in the care of their amazing, fragile little person. I understand that care is a partnership and only by succeeding with this partnership can we achieve the best results for the infant. I’m fascinated and honored to be part of that process.Education & Training
