Get to Know Me
Anthony Gannon, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician and internist who specializes in endocrine disorders for children and adults. His practice is geared towards treatment of complex endocrine disease, endocrine tumors and helping teenagers transition to adult care. Why I Treat Children
I chose to train as a pediatric endocrinologist because I consider it a privilege and joy to work together with children and their families with the goal of helping them to better understand and control their diseases.I see the purpose of my practice to teach and empower children and families so that they can achieve their goals in treatment and in life. My practice is unique in that I am also a practicing adult endocrinologist. This means I’m able to provide clinical follow-up to children as they become adults, and also to help prepare them, and their families, for the transition into adult clinics. What I'm Passionate About
I specialized in endocrinology because the hormone systems are complicated, but fascinating, and I think there’s tremendous opportunity to improve the quality of life for patients. I’m interested in working with children of all ages who have complex endocrine disease, including endocrine tumors.I chose to complete separate pediatric and adult training programs so that I could be best equipped to assist children and their families to move more smoothly through the transition process into adult clinics. I am excited to be part of the Nemours Children’s Health System because this has enabled me to partner with Christiana Care Health System to form a true endocrinology transitions program. How I Try to Make A Difference
Endocrinology is a unique field because there is no single answer for every family, and this allows a lot of room for personalization of care. I think the most valuable tool I have to offer families is to provide education and empower them to manage their diseases and to achieve the goals that are most important to them.Education & Training

Research Activities
I have engaged in several research projects, but my most recent work, since 2010, has been focused on thyroid cancer and thyroid nodules in children.
Because research in children is so spotty on the topic of thyroid nodules, I embarked on a major project to examine the factors that impact the risk of thyroid cancer in children, which will allow us to more confidently determine the best ways to manage children with these nodules. This project is part of my thesis for a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics; the study is ongoing findings should be published in late 2015.
Additionally, I have engaged in a study examining the surgical outcomes of children who have thyroid disease with a specific emphasis on the adverse effects of surgery for different indications.
