Get to Know Me
Dr. Margaret Chou is the Obstetrics Medical Director of the Nemours Advanced Delivery Program, and on staff at Christiana Care. Prior to that, she was in private practice in Dover for 11 years. She graduated with honors from Harvard, attended NYU School of Medicine, and completed her residency at Stanford. She currently resides in Wilmington with her husband and two cats and is the proud mother of two young adults.
Why I Am an Ob/Gyn With the Advanced Delivery Program
I think I’ve wanted to be an Ob/Gyn since I’ve been aware that such a profession existed. A person is so much more than their reproductive potential, but it is a privilege to take care of another’s needs across their entire lifespan at deeply personal times.
What I'm Passionate About
Whether it is a delivery where my judgement and skills are desperately needed, or better yet, a delivery where my presence is barely necessary, I still find myself saying “I love what I do” at 4 am to whoever will listen. I’ve always liked everything a general ob/gyn does, but delivering babies has always been at the heart of my professional practice.
During time off, I enjoy swimming, bicycling, singing and ballroom dancing.
How I Try to Make A Difference
I’m Chair of the Delaware Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of both the Delaware Maternal Mortality Review Committee and the Delaware Perinatal Quality Collaborative. I touch the lives of the patients I treat, but my involvement in those organizations helps me learn about and advocate for improvements in systems and in state and federal laws in the areas of reproductive justice, maternal mortality, health inequities and implicit bias in medicine. As a staff physician at Christiana Care, I also feel honored to contribute in small part to the education of the next generation of my profession.
