Get to Know Me

Madalyn Charnego, MS, MPH, CGC, is a certified and licensed genetic counselor specializing in perinatal genetics at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. Prior to joining Nemours Children’s, Madalyn served as a prenatal genetic counselor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She earned her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling and Master of Public Health in Public Health Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When she is not providing care to patients at the Fetal Care Center, Madalyn enjoys reading and exploring local coffee shops and bookstores. 

Why I Am a Genetic Counselor with the Fetal Care Center.

Early in her career, Madalyn witnessed the process when her patients were referred to a higher-level center, such as Nemours Children’s Health, after the diagnosis of a complexity in pregnancy. She saw the many emotions and questions surrounding that referral. Madalyn felt a desire to be a genetic counselor who was receiving and welcoming those patients at the next step in their journey. Taking on a role as a genetic counselor with the Fetal Care Center meant Madalyn would have a greater ability to provide the most vulnerable of pregnancies with the utmost quality of care. Armed with the experts in the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health, Madalyn has the honor to assist patients in receiving cutting edge pregnancy care and fetal therapy. 

What I'm Passionate About

Madalyn has a passion for providing accessible, knowledgeable, and compassionate genetics care to every patient and family she encounters. Her patient consultations are the most meaningful part of her day. Madalyn works to be sure those who leave her office feel educated and supported as they navigate their pregnancy and pregnancy-related decisions. 

How I Try to Make A Difference

Madalyn strives to make each interaction with patients and families valuable by highlighting the ways in which genetic counseling can be a meaningful piece in their time with the Fetal Care Center. She extends this same attitude to her colleagues within the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health as well as her colleagues throughout the Nemours Children’s Health system and beyond. Madalyn’s counseling style puts an emphasis on meeting patients where they are and supporting families through complex healthcare needs.
