Nemours Anti-Racism Statement

The Nemours Children’s Health System is committed to being the voice for children’s health with one high standard of quality and experience for our patients, families, associates and business partners. Nemours is committed to cultivating a strong foundation of inclusive excellence and cultural proficiency.

In alignment with our Values and Standards of Behavior, inclusive excellence demands that we confront and reject all manifestations of discrimination or harassment, including those based on race, ethnicity, age, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, gender and gender expression, citizenship, veteran status, religious or nonreligious beliefs, political beliefs, socio-economic class, status within or outside the Nemours health system, or any of the other differences among people that have been excuses for misunderstanding, dissension or hatred.

We recognize and value the richness contributed to our lives by our diverse patients and associates. We believe in the diversity of thoughts, ideas, beliefs, experiences and the inclusion of people regardless of their differences. We take pride in our collective achievements and celebrate our differences. We want to spend time listening, learning and taking thoughtful actions toward sustained change.

Nemours is committed to being an anti-racism organization. Our anti-racism statement defining our journey begins with this internal commitment to our associates:
Nemours is an anti-racism organization. We define being an anti-racism organization as creating an environment where all associates, regardless of race or the color of their skin, know they are valued. We acknowledge that racism should not be confused with implicit bias, which can be unintentional and therefore does not necessarily make an individual with implicit bias a racist. We also acknowledge that the impact is critically important irrespective of the intent. As an anti-racism organization, we will purposefully identify, discuss and challenge issues of race and color and the impact(s) they have on our organization, our systems and our people. We will also challenge ourselves to understand and correct any inequities we may discover within Nemours and gain a better understanding of ourselves during this purposeful process. Being an anti-racism organization is a journey and it is the learning along the way that makes this work worth all of our efforts.
