Board of Directors

Gwen MacKenzie is a senior advisor with McKinsey and Company in their global health care practice. She also consults with Quick, Leonard, Kieffer in Chicago and teaches emotional intelligence and executive leadership at the University of Michigan.

Known as a problem-solver and expert in population health, until recently Gwen was a senior executive with Ascension where she had oversight for the Michigan market, one of the system's largest. As CEO, (also market executive and senior vice president) she led 15 hospitals, 130 delivery sites and had responsibility for $3.78 million in operating revenue. During her tenure, a physician force of 5,300 served one in every eight Michiganders under Ascension's services. Gwen's insight into health services delivery is beyond compare and she brings that knowledge to our Board.

Gwen is credited with pioneering the first statewide clinically integrated health network in Michigan which addressed population health with Ascension Michigan and Trinity Health — Together Health Network. Recently a strategic addition of the University of Michigan to the organization has enhanced the program.

Gwen's experience in mergers and acquisitions includes the competitive acquisition of Crittenton Hospital and Medical Center while at Ascension. Other CEO and leadership assignments included: Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, Detroit Medical Center, Sinai Grace Hospital, Harper-Hutzel Hospital and Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Gwen has served on numerous boards both public and nonprofit. Current assignments are Michigan Health and Hospital Association Service Corporation, Press Ganey Associates Advisory Board, University of Michigan Griffith Leadership Center and Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors.

Gwen earned her Bachelor of Science and Master's in Health Care Administration at the University of Michigan, and her master's degree in Nursing from the University of California (Los Angeles).

Gwen and her husband reside in Sarasota, Florida.
