Anesthesiology Fellowship Program

Program Overview

Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowships are offered through Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville, in Florida under the sponsorship of Mayo Clinic. The one-year fellowship includes ten months of operating room, postanesthesia care unit and pediatric pain service rotations during which fellows care for children undergoing all types of pediatric surgery. Fellows spend one or two months in pediatric intensive care rotations. One month is dedicated to an elective of the fellow's choice. The remaining month is provided for vacation, educational conferences and opportunities to interview for a postgraduate position. Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Premier Pediatric Collaboration

This program is a collaborative effort between the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville.

Nemours is a multispecialty care facility. Our team consists of 19 pediatric anesthesiologists, 4 nurse practitioners and 9 anesthetists (AAs and CRNAs). Patients are seen at Nemours and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the only tertiary referral children’s hospital in the northeast Florida and southern Georgia region.

Curriculum and Rotations

About Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville

Located downtown on the beautiful St. Johns River, Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville is an outpatient pediatric clinic that provides specialized care for children in Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia and beyond. We also see patients at the adjacent Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Premier Pediatric Collaboration

Your training is provided through a seamless, time-tested affiliation between Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville and Wolfson Children's Hospital. Our strong weekly academic schedule helps educate residents from the local University of Florida program, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and the combined U.S. Army/Navy program in Bethesda, Md.

Wolfson is the only tertiary referral children’s hospital in the Northeast Florida and Southern Georgia region. The 250-bed facility has 12 operating rooms, with approximately two to three per day dedicated to orthopedics. Wolfson’s Emergency Department is staffed entirely by fellowship-trained pediatric emergency medicine physicians. The trauma center is Level 3.

Positions

Four positions are available on a competitive basis each year in the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited four-year anesthesiology residency program to apply to the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship in Jacksonville, Florida.

How to apply

The academic year begins July 1.

The application and all supporting documentation must be submitted by May 31 of the year preceding the program start date.

You must apply through SF Match, a third-party application service. Do not send materials to Mayo Clinic Pediatric Anesthesiology.

Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty.

Interviews will be conducted in April through May of the year prior to the appointment.
