Get to Know Me

Growing up in Bombay, I was a tomboy, the youngest in my family, and first to go into medicine. I’m fascinated by the vastness of neurology and the challenge of treating children who have epilepsy and other neurological disorders. It’s rewarding, a little like putting puzzle pieces together to come up with answers, and very satisfying.

Why I Treat Children

During my training, I always enjoyed pediatrics more than other fields – partly because I love children – and partly because it gives me a chance to establish a sense of trust with the whole family.

What I'm Passionate About

I like breaking new ground and doing what no one else has done before. I’m also passionate about ending child abuse, particularly Shaken Baby Syndrome. It’s heartbreaking, and I can’t understand why anybody would ever want to hurt a child.

I'm especially interest in conditions including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Headache disorders
  • Sports concussions
  • Movement disorders
  • Neurocutaneous syndromes
  • Febrile seizures

How I Try to Make A Difference

When I treat a child with epilepsy, I do everything I can to educate family members and help them work through the fears that come with it. I also think it’s important to raise awareness about cerebral palsy and epilepsy in children in the way Michael J. Fox has raised awareness about Parkinson’s disease.
