Get to Know Me

Dr. Charles Vinocur is a pediatric general surgeon and director of Clinical Outcomes and Quality for Surgical Services. He’s on the executive committee of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program; a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Surgeons; educator, lecturer and author.

Why I Treat Children

My father was a physician. He was one of the many reasons I felt inspired to pursue a career in medicine.During medical school, I did a rotation in pediatric surgery. There were very few training programs in that field at the time. I assisted at a complex operation on a newborn baby on my second day, and that was all I needed to decide that I wanted to become a pediatric surgeon.

What I'm Passionate About

I'm an advocate for family-centered care and evidence-based continuous quality improvement. All children should get the quality care they deserve — and that means caring for the families too. I also believe parents should know outcome data so they can make informed choices. I'm proud that Nemours was one of four sites where a national quality improvement program was tested. And, as recent co-chair of the executive committee for the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric, I have the privilege of playing an active role nationally to ensure that all children receive the quality surgery they deserve.

How I Try to Make A Difference

As physicians, we have an obligation that goes beyond our own world. It can be difficult for health care consumers to know whom to see for a particular problem or question. I’m glad to help anybody who needs assistance with a medical issue.
