Eva, Jenna & Maya: Premature Multiples

“We are forever grateful for what they’ve done for our family. We feel it’s a miracle."

— Jennifer Izzi, the triplets’ mom

The Izzi family more than doubled in size when triplets Eva, Jenna and Maya were born several weeks early at Lankenau Hospital to first-time parents Jennifer and Michael. All three babies were healthy, weighing more than 3 lbs. at birth. About a week later, Maya was transferred from Lankenau to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children when she developed necrotizing enterocolitis, a serious condition that can affect preemies.

Maya had a successful intestinal surgery but needed to spend several weeks recovering in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at duPont Hospital for Children. That meant Jennifer and Michael had to run back and forth between the two hospitals’ NICUs. Their doctors, nurses and social workers at duPont Hospital for Children recognized how exhausting the situation was for them. So the staff worked with the couple’s insurance company so that their other babies could be transferred to the NICU at duPont Hospital for Children so everyone could be together.

Meet the Izzi family and hear about their NICU journey.
