Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)

Expert Eye Care for Kids

Young girl with strabismus (crossed eyes) visiting Nemours to see one of our eye specialists.

Strabismus is when eyes don’t line up or when one or both eyes wander. Whether your child was born with strabismus or it happened later, the condition usually can be fixed when it’s found and treated early. At Nemours, that’s what we do. Only a trained pediatric ophthalmologist (children's eye doctor) can diagnose and treat strabismus in kids. Our experts can better your child’s chances of having straight eyes and good vision as they grow.

Strabismus Services We Offer

Strabismus Services We Offer

We offer complete diagnostic and treatment services for children with strabismus. Our services may vary depending on the location you visit and the doctor your child sees:

  • an eye exam by one of our ophthalmologists (doctors who specialize in eye care and surgery)
  • tests to see whether your child’s eyes are looking in the same direction
  • treatment options including glasses to help the eyes look in the same direction, an eye patch to help strengthen the weaker eye, or surgery to fix the eye muscles (kids can usually go home the same day of their operation)
