Get to Know Me
Originally from Argentina, Dr. Epelman practiced in Israel and Canada before coming to the United States. She is a full professor of radiology at the University of Central Florida and one of the four assistant editors of Pediatric Radiology, the most esteemed journal for pediatric imagers. She has published more than 150 manuscripts and the significance of her contributions is highlighted by the manner in which other scientists rely on her work with more than 3800 citations, and a Google Scholar h-index of 29.Why I Treat Children
Before I started medical school, I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician. Then I discovered radiology. It was a natural fit for someone like me who likes computers and the challenges of using technology to help get the right diagnosis. One of my strengths is ultrasound. I really enjoy being right there to oversee the child’s care and make sure we get all the information we need.
What I'm Passionate About
I’m always passionate about doing good imaging studies that are truly diagnostic. I enjoy helping other doctors and surgeons on the care team really understand a problem. For example, I enjoy making 3-D imaging pictures because they can tell us so much.
Make A Difference
One of my main interests is making sure children are imaged using the lowest radiation possible. It is important to capture the highest quality images with the least amount of risk for the child. Whenever possible, I check on the patient myself. It’s good to be involved in imaging so that I can make sure the process is really tailored to the individual kid, with the least amount of risk. Another way I try to make a difference is through my research.
