Caring For Your Newborn

Join other expecting parents as pediatricians from Nemours Children’s explain the basics of caring for a newborn. Babies don’t come with user’s manuals, so our team of experts will help prepare you to navigate the early days of parenting by telling you what to expect when you leave the hospital, teaching you new skills, and answering your questions. You'll also have the opportunity to connect with other expecting parents in the area, learn about Nemours Children’s Primary Care and choose a pediatrician.

This class is great for new parents and parenting pros looking for a refresher. Grandparents and other caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Meet Our Experts

Alicia Turner, MD

Dr. Alicia Turner is a Florida Native. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Barry University in Miami. She then received her medical degree from the University of Florida and completed her pediatric training at Nemours Children’s Health, Florida. Dr. Alicia Turner founded this program as a pediatric resident at Nemours Children’s Health, Florida, and is now a pediatrician at Nemours Primary Care Oviedo South. Her special interests include newborn care, breastfeeding medicine, medical education and wellness. She loves teaching children about their health while supporting and empowering parents along their journey in parenthood. She is an avid volleyball player and enjoys spending time with her son and husband.

Charlene Dodson, MD

Dr. Charlene Dodson is a Florida native. She received her bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Molecular Biology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She then did a Masters of Public Health at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. After, she completed her medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Currently, she is receiving her pediatric residency training at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida. Her special interests include newborn and pediatric hospitalist care and infant safe sleep practices. She enjoys outdoor activities with her sons and husband.

Monet Winslow, MD

Dr. Monet Winslow is originally from South Florida and loves living in Orlando. She received her bachelor’s degree in Human Development at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. She went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and is completing her pediatric training at Nemours Children’s Health, Florida. She hopes to stay in the Orlando area and work in primary care upon graduating in 2023. She has a special interest in providing education to new parents, addressing developmental delays in early childhood, breastfeeding medicine and healthy habits. She gets the most joy out of connecting with families on a more personal level to better promote total wellness in the growing child. She loves visiting any of the Disney theme parks on the weekends with her husband and daughter, and is so excited to be welcoming Baby #2 into her family later this year.

Victoria Maldonado, MD

Dr. Victoria Maldonado was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She is the first doctor in her family. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and medical degree at a 7-year BS/MD program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/CUNY School of Medicine in New York. She is currently training at Nemours Children's Health, Florida pediatric residency program. Her special interests include working with patients in underserved areas, newborn care and medical education. When she's not working, she is most likely out and about with her fiancé and 2 fur babies Lola and Zuko.

Anevea Tinnery, MD

Dr. Anevea Tinnery was born and raised in New Jersey. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Afterwards, she obtained her medical degree from Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She moved to Orlando, FL to start her pediatric residency training at Nemours Children’s Hospital. Her medical interests include newborn care, emergency medicine and treating outpatient underserved populations. She loves watching/attending sporting events, painting, party planning and spending time with her puppy!

Additional Details

The class will take place in the auditorium at Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida. When you arrive, please park in the parking garage (parking is free). Enter through the main entrance at the front of the hospital and check-in with security at the desk in the main lobby.
