At the Cerebral Palsy Center in Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, we offer some of the best cerebral palsy (CP) care in the world. We bring together world-renowned CP experts from orthopedics, neurology and other specialties in our hospital.
Our hospital in Wilmington, Del., also offers all of the other resources your child may need, from surgical facilities to a full complement of therapists (physical, occupational, speech and language and certified hand therapists), gait specialists, orthotics and brace specialists, nutritionists and assistive technology specialists.
For your convenience, you and your child may be able to have a follow-up appointment with one of our neurologists or therapists at one of our satellite locations in the Delaware Valley.
Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children was the first location of one of the nation's largest pediatric health systems. Since 1940, we’ve established a reputation for excellence in pediatric care. This reputation is backed by our consistent rankings among the best children’s hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
One of the things you may appreciate most is the duPont Hospital for Children’s location. We’re situated amid a beautiful park-like setting, with huge oak trees, inviting green lawns and a variety of welcoming amenities:
The Augmentative Communication team’s offices are right next to the Wheelchair Clinic, since they often work with the wheelchair team to add enhanced communication aids to a child’s seating system.
The Gait Lab is conveniently located on the ground floor, an easy elevator ride down from the Orthopedic Outpatient Clinic. Here, too, you’ll find warm and friendly staff ready to make you and your child feel at home. The colorful Wizard of Oz wall mural should help, too.
Our Orthopedic Outpatient Clinic is right on the first floor of our hospital, which is especially handy if your child is getting around with a walker or by wheelchair. You’ll find the space to be bright and welcoming, and filled with staff members who are warm and friendly. Once you get checked in, you and your child will see your orthopedic cerebral palsy expert and team right in the clinic area.
We offer an orthotic clinic right in the hospital, filled with specialists who can fit your child with prefabricated or custom-made orthotics, as needed. The clinic is located on the hospital’s first floor, between the orthopedics cast room and the Radiology (Medical Imaging) Department.
If your child or teen is receiving these therapies on an outpatient basis (just visiting the hospital for the day), the therapy areas are located right next to Augmentative Communication and the Wheelchair Clinic.
If your child or teen is receiving these therapies on an inpatient basis (staying at the hospital), you’ll find the therapy areas on the second floor, just above the Orthopedic Outpatient Clinic.
The Radiology (Medical Imaging) Department is located on the hospital’s first floor, next to the orthopedics cast room. The Department offers an array of medical imaging tests if your child’s orthopedic specialist recommend one. And, if your child needs frequent tests over the years, rest assured that our pediatric radiology team is committed to limiting your child’s radiation exposure by using the lowest dose necessary to get an accurate image.
The Wheelchair Clinic is also located on the ground floor, just across the hall from the Gait Lab. This clinic is filled with a large variety of wheelchair models and standing assist devices, as well as equipment and tools to help the rehabilitation engineer and technician find the proper fit for your child.
