Occupational Therapy

Expert Help With Everyday Activities

Nemours pediatric occupational therapy expert with child.

Our pediatric occupational therapy program provides evaluation and treatment services for children who have difficulty performing everyday activities — the occupation of living life. At Nemours, we design a comprehensive pediatric occupational therapy program tailored to your child’s needs. Our goal is to restore as much function and independence as possible. Our occupational therapists (also called “OTs”) will work to increase your child’s independence in activities of daily living, as well as improve their coordination, fine motor skills, visual motor skills and functional cognitive (thinking) skills.

Conditions We Treat

Conditions We Treat

A lot of conditions may benefit from occupational therapy. Difficulties with the tasks of everyday living can stem from birth defects, injuries, chronic (ongoing) and acute (sudden) illnesses, burns, surgeries and more.

We see a full spectrum of conditions — far too many to list here. The conditions we treat vary depending upon the location and providers selected. Don’t see a condition listed? Call us.

Services We Offer

Services We Offer

Often the techniques our OTs use may seem like play. Your child may have a lot of fun and even laugh during occupational therapy, but these therapies are also designed to improve specific abilities.

We offer comprehensive occupational therapy services, which may vary upon the condition and location. Depending on your child’s condition or injury, our treatment plan may include help with:

  • building endurance
  • concussion management
  • enhancing coordination and balance
  • feeding
  • fine motor training (such as handwriting and grasping items)
  • hand-eye coordination (such as hitting a target, batting a ball, copying from a blackboard, etc.)
  • hand therapy (to help children with hand deformities, conditions or injuries)
  • high-level functional learning
  • interactive metronome (measures and improves rhythm and timing)
  • learning to use a prosthetic
  • muscle training and re-education
  • pain management
  • perceptual-motor skills training
  • recovery from an injured arm and using splints, casts and adaptive equipment
  • self-care and basic activities of daily living (ADL) (such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing teeth and self-feeding)
  • sensory processing and integration (helping children who have sensitivities with their senses — touch, textures, noise, lights, etc.)
  • sports medicine
Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us

If a physical, cognitive or developmental problem makes it difficult for your child to learn, process information, or perform everyday tasks, our pediatric occupational therapists can help. Our occupational therapists will work with your child to enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. We’ll also consult with other professionals and provide education services for your family, your other children, and others involved in your child’s care.
