Helping Kids Cope With Big Feelings

Nemours' child psychiatrists help kids

Lots of children have problems that can affect how they feel, think, learn and act. At Nemours, our child psychiatrists are here to help. We’re medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing, preventing and treating issues affecting kids’ mental health (emotions and behavior).

Please note: Nemours does not have inpatient psychiatric facilities or beds for children or teens.

We see a full spectrum of conditions — far too many to list here. The conditions we treat vary depending upon the location and providers selected. Don’t see a condition listed? Call us.

Services We Offer

Services We Offer

Our child psychiatry experts provide outpatient consultation to kids dealing with the stress of a chronic medical condition, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. We also share our psychiatric expertise, as needed, for children admitted to the hospital for medical and/or surgical care.

We can prescribe and manage medications that may help correct imbalances in brain chemicals that may be affecting how kids feel and behave. Children and teens on long-term medications will need to meet regularly with their child psychiatrists to monitor the effectiveness of the medications and any potential side effects.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us

Nemours’ highly trained child psychiatrists only work with children and adolescents — not adults. That means we understand the unique issues facing kids and teens, and how best to help them. We also work closely with pediatric psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors and other kids’ specialists, as needed, to offer full-service care.

Regional Child Psychiatry Highlights

Services, programs and care teams differ at each location. Call for details.

We offer child psychiatry at Rockland Center II (1801 Rockland Road, Suite 201, Wilmington, Del., located near the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children entrance, next to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware).

We also have a Pediatric Psychiatric Consultation Clinic that allows primary care providers to refer kids and teens for consultation appointments with one of our psychiatrists. During this appointment, one of our pediatric psychiatrists can develop a treatment plan, if needed, for your child. Then your child’s primary care doctor can provide the follow-up medication therapy.
