Sleep is so important for your child’s health, and studies show that kids aren’t getting enough of it. Sleep disorders and problems can lead to trouble focusing, a decline in grades, irritability, daytime sleepiness, injuries, hyperactivity and more. Nemours’ board-certified pediatric sleep medicine experts have special, advanced training to diagnose, evaluate the causes of, and treat sleep disorders in children. A sleep study (also called “polysomnography”) may help determine if your child has a breathing or movement disorder, has problems falling or staying asleep, or is experiencing a behavioral or academic (school) problem related to sleep.

Services We Offer
We may perform a sleep study — when our pediatric sleep medicine experts monitor your child’s sleep over the course of an entire night. We’ll track vital information such as brain waves, breathing, movement and heart rate. The sleep study begins with a registered sleep technologist attaching painless, sticky sensors to your child’s head, nose, mouth, chest, abdomen, index finger and legs. You’ll have a private room with a TV, linens and pillows. Although your child should sleep alone in the sleep study bed, you can be in the room the whole time, sleeping on a cot or couch that converts into a bed.
If the sleep study does discover a problem, we’ll work closely with you, your child and family to create an individualized treatment plan that’s kid-friendly and easy to follow.
