Kids’ Eye & Vision Experts

Pediatric ophthalmology expert positions eye equipment in front of boy

Nemours board-certified ophthalmologists (eye doctors) have exceptional expertise in identifying and treating eye issues early, before they may lead to long-term vision problems. We can often perform state-of-the-art procedures, including laser surgery, in a single day — no overnight stay necessary. And, when vision problems are just one part of a complex condition, we coordinate care with other specialists your child may see. So you can often visit multiple doctors on the same day, in the same place.

Vision Problems We Treat

Vision Problems We Treat

We treat just about every childhood eye condition in kids from birth to age 18. And our doctors and surgeons have special expertise in treating complex eye issues in premature babies.

We see a full spectrum of conditions — far too many to list here. The conditions we treat vary depending upon the location and providers selected. Don’t see a condition listed? Call us.

Ophthalmology Services We Offer

Ophthalmology Services We Offer

We offer comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology services, which may vary depending upon the condition and location. Using the latest diagnostic techniques and equipment adapted just for children, our services may include:

  • advanced procedures, including laser surgery when it’s appropriate
  • electroretinogram (a test that measures eyes’ electrical activity)
  • evaluation and treatment of children after brain surgery for seizures
  • eye exams (primary eye care, contact lens fitting, low vision services using equipment made specifically for kids)
  • eye surgery (including procedures to open blocked tear ducts, straighten the eyes, and treat glaucoma and cataracts)
  • ocular coherence tomography (OCT, a test that uses light waves to take pictures of the retina)
  • ocular ultrasounds (a test that produces 2-D image of the eye  and surrounding areas to show growths or other problems)
  • retinal and eye photography (taking pictures of the back of eye to look for signs of damage)
  • screening for eye problems related to diabetes or sickle cell disease
  • topography (a test that creates a 3-D map of the curves on the cornea’s surface)
  • visual evoked potential test (used to detect abnormalities related to electrical activity of the brain)
  • visual field testing (assesses your child’s scope of vision, including on both sides)
